Brown Co. Board cuts public notice costs

Ok using county website for transportation project bid ads

NEW ULM — Brown County will now advertise its transportation project bids on the county website.

In an effort to improve project delivery efficiency and cut public notice costs, Brown County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday to publish transportation project bid ads on the county website.

The Brown County Highway Department currently advertises transportation project bids in the declared county legal newspaper and on the Minnesota Department of Transportation State Aid-E-Advert website.

Brown County Highway Engineer Andrew Lang said using the county website (www.browncountymn.gov) for official notice of transportation project bids instead of newspaper ads would save the county about $3,200 a year, considering last year’s bid advertising costs.

Lang said by approving the resolution, transportation project bids would be listed on the county website and state bid bulletin board website at no cost. He said the bid listings would continue to meet requirements by listing them online for three consecutive weeks plus a 10-day period before bids are opened.

“The majority of contractors look at the state bid bulletin board,” said Lang.

According to resolution No. 2026-2, (Approving Publication of Transportation Project Bids on the Brown County website), Brown County will publish a notice in a qualified newspaper and on the County website announcing transportation project bid advertisements will be posted on the Brown County website.

Resolution approval came on a motion by Commissioner Tony Berg, seconded by Dave Borchert.

The Brown County Highway Department website (https://www.co.brown.mn.us/196/Highway) posted a public notice Tuesday that Brown County Commissioners designated the county website the official publication Advertisements for Bids for Transportation. The notice will remain on the county website through Jan. 5, 2027 and will be published in the Hanska Herald Jan. 15, 2027.

Starting at $4.50/week.
