Community dinners set for Thanksgiving

NEW ULM — Community Thanksgiving dinners are planned in New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Winthrop and Mankato Thursday.

New Ulm

The 37th Annual New Ulm Community Friends Thanksgiving Dinner is set for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of St. Mary’s Church, 417 S. Minnesota St.

The menu includes turkey, dressing, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, buns, and pumpkin pie all made from scratch. A free will donation will help put on the event next year.

Sleepy Eye

Open Bible Church, 144 W. Main Street, Sleepy Eye, hosts a community meal at noon Thursday.

Pastor Kyle Asp founded the church in downtown Sleepy Eye with his wife Kathy in 2022.

“I heard a number of people have no place to go for Thanksgiving dinner, so I decided to do this. Right now, we plan to serve about 40 people,” Asp said Tuesday. “Some people are bringing food. Free will donations will be accepted too.”

Attendees are asked to call 507-822-6142 to ensure the proper amount of food is prepared.

Winthrop

St. Francis Catholic Church in Winthrop, 510 Brown Street North is serving Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The church is located two blocks east of the Winthrop drive in, two blocks north of State Highway 19.

Mankato

The Mankato Elks Lodge, 119 South Front St. is serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey and pumpkin pie beginning at 11 a.m. Food will be available by pickup or delivery only. No dine-in this year. For more information call Tim Secott at 507-995-7825. To donate, visit the Elk’s website.
