NEW ULM — Fall concert-goers got a taste of German and American standards, folk and some rock tunes from New Ulm’s ambassadors of good will, The Concord Singers at the State Street Theater Saturday.
The two-hour, two-set performance included two new members performing for the first time — Wil Larson and Jaden Spicer. Other Concord Singers who joined the group of 32 active members this year are James Ide, Hans Joohs Exchange Intern Samuel Knoops, Shaun Luker and Robert Wright.
“We’re going to do the songs we perform at eight long-term care facilities in December,” said Master of Ceremonies Stan Miller. “It’s a lot of fun for us. A lot of folks sing along with us in German. We’re going to try and bring a smile to your face tonight.”
Traditional music include “O Tannenbaum, The Little Drummer Boy and Stille Nacht.”
Other music included John Denver’s “Country Roads,” Neal Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline, Schnitzelbank and Una Paloma Blanca.”
Founded in 1931, The Concord Singers began as a group of men united by love of song. They’ve appeared on radio, television and have recorded many German-language songs, available on DC.
The group performs at all New Ulm music festivals and have traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and made made European tours.
