Speeds during chase reach 160 mph, officials say
LAKE CRYSTAL — A 23-year-old Fairfax man was arrested in Lake Crystal Wednesday after leading law enforcement on a 10-mile chase that at times topped 160 mph, according to Blue Earth County Sheriff’s officials.
“It all happened in a matter of minutes. There was almost no traffic on the highway at the time,” said Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office Captain Paul Barta.
A Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a motorcycle traveling at 90 mph on State Highway 60 west of Lake Crystal, near Country Road 119 at 9:48 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. The motorcycle accelerated, leading the deputy on a pursuit at speeds up to 160 mph.
David James Ruter lost control of the motorcycle in a grassy median while trying to make a U-turn during the pursuit, according to the sheriff’s report. He was taken into custody without further resistance.
There were no injuries in the incident, the report stated. Ruter was the only person on the motorcycle. He remains in the Blue Earth County Jail for charges including driving after suspension. Damage was minor to the motorcycle and sheriff’s office vehicle.
