GFW to present ‘How the West was Dun’
Nov. 1-2 in high school theater

WINTHROP — A comedy full of wild and wooly Western spoofs begins next weekend in the Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) High School theater.
Teaming with Sibley East High School again, GFW presents its fall play “How the West was Dun” Nov. 1-2.
The play features slick and wealthy Richard Coldheart (Eli Molash) who must marry Polly Wanda Cracker (Sylvia Schull) to control her property.
However, it’s Polly’s homely sister, Prunella (Lydia Chapman) who wants to marry him.
Meanwhile, our hero, Sheriff Wayne John (Tyler Aden) has his hands full surviving the hilarious antics of well meaning but not too bring Deputy Doowrong (Kalli Aden).
When a bundle of villains, including Snydley Dastardley (Elli Arvidson), Kid Kid (Oli Urban), and Calamity Jan (Daniella Kieper), attempt to take over, things really go crazy.
Director Joe Vos said he’s got an energetic group of 30 students, many of them underclassmen, in the production he said fits the students well.
“There are many leads in the play, which I really like. It allows kids more stage time,” said Vos.
Students said they are enjoying seeing the production come together and spending time with friends, among other things they enjoy.
“Most of my friends are in it. I like making the set and seeing everything work,” said Eli Molash (Richard Coldheart).
“I like getting out of my comfort zone and setting everything up,” said Lydia Chapman (Prunella Cracker).
“I like hanging out with cool people,” said Remi Schwecke (Blacker Bart).
“It’s fun meeting new people,” said Jaiden Rebers (Black Bart).
“It’s a bonding experience,” said Tyler Aden (Sheriff Wayne John).
“I like to ability to be myself,” said Oli Urban (Kid Kid).
“I like being creative and making lots of friends,” said Elli Arvidson (Snydley Dastardley).
Daniella Kieper said she enjoys being herself and meeting people with high energy.
James Slossen (Schizophrenic Kid) said he enjoys building sets.
Emma Ferguson (June) said she enjoys being with people she really likes and having so much fun.
Kenny Duncan (Rev. Right) said he likes his role.
“Everybody is so helpful. It’s so fun to be here, not matter what you do,” said Kaylee Slosson (August).
The cast also includes Isaac Vos as Bo Best, Mirra Sjogren as the narrator, James Slosson as Schizophrenic Kid, Gavin Johnson as Cowboy Bob Skratchit, Acelyn Harford as Sarsaparilla Sal, Keely Hlinsky as Widow Abigail Cracker, Kai Marozik at April, Jaiden Rebers as Black Bart, Remi Schwecke as Blacker Bart, Sage Long as The Long Stranger, Lillian McKinley as Belle Starr, Kenny Duncan as Reverend Right, Arianna Banda as Nun Sense, Kaylee Slosson as August, Emma Ferguson as June and Sadie Lowey as May.
Performance times are 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2. Tickets will be available at the play. Adults are $7, students, $5. No presale. A school-only performance is set for Friday, Oct. 31.
