Corcoran man faces felony charges involving hit-and-run

NU woman suffered multiple injuries

MANKATO — A 25-year-old Corcoran man allegedly driving a vehicle that struck a pedestrian in downtown Mankato Oct. 4 was charged in Blue Earth County Friday.

Marek Armstrong of New Ulm suffered multiple injuries in the incident.

Joseph Ray Beck Revering was charged with felony criminal vehicular operation-substantial bodily harm – driver who causes collision leaves scene. He was also charged with gross misdemeanor traffic collision – driver fails to stop – injury or death and a misdemeanor reckless driving charge – drives consciously disregarding a substantial or unjustifiable risk.

According to the complaint, the Mankato Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the incident at 1:42 a.m. The 911 caller and witness said a big, white dual-wheel truck injured a woman who was not conscious but steadily breathing.

Law enforcement and first responders arrived and provided medical aid to Armstrong before she was transported to the hospital.

The witness said he and Armstrong were walking in downtown Mankato when a truck pulled up near them and the driver asked for a cigarette. He said Armstrong handed a cigarette to individuals in the truck and her arm was inside the truck when it sped off, causing her to spin off the truck and hit her head on pavement.

Police obtained a photo of the truck driver from downtown surveillance cameras. The driver was identified as Revering after numerous individuals responded to an online media release.

Mankato Police obtained video footage of the incident that showed Armstrong standing next to the truck that accelerated quickly while she reached into the vehicle. According to police, the truck’s rear fender hit Armstrong’s body, knocking her to the ground and causing her to hit her head on the pavement, as the truck left the area without stopping.
