Sleepy Eye school board OKs naming rights policy
SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Public School board unanimously approved a school buildings and grounds naming rights policy Wednesday.
“We noticed the New Ulm School board recently granted high school gym naming rights (to Allina Health) and I thought why can’t we do this ourselves?” said Sleepy Eye/Cedar Mountain Superindendent John Cselovszki.
As part of an agreement with New Ulm Public School, Allina Health logos will be placed on the gym floor and the gym will be named Allina Health Gymnasium.
In exchange for naming rights, Allina Health will provide the New Ulm Public Schools with in-kind athletic training services valued at $131,835 over 10 years.
Cselovszki said he and athletic director Cory Haala are putting a naming rights committee together.

“We have a couple people interested in serving on the committee. We’re looking for more people,” Cselovszki said.
According to the policy, naming rights may be awarded for auditoriums, theaters, gymnasiums, libraries, gardens, walks, athletic fields/facilities, concessions and locker rooms and for specific building projects like fine arts and industrial technology.
Approval came on a motion from board member Dan Marti, seconded by Joleen Dittbenner.
Cselovszki said in his board report that the Minnesota Department of Education recently approved Sleepy Eye Public School’s issuance of $2.56 million in Series 2026A General Obligation Facilities Maintenance Bonds for roof repairs.
Funds will be used to replace four school roof sections that have reached or exceeded their life expectancy and repairs are unsustainable. Work will done on the 1986 east and west wings, 1986 cafeteria wing and 1979 upper and lower elementary wings.
The project includes replacing rubber roof, damaged insulation, roof metal panel facade and masonry and addressing structural integrity issues of the roof.
Cselovszki said the bonds can be issued without a public vote due to recent legislation.
“The project is similar to a $2.7 million heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) project that will expire before the new bonds are issued. It means we won’t have to raise taxes for roof bonds,” he told the board in August.
