Brown County board OKs county ditch repairs

NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved County Ditch 16 and 44 tile placement projects Tuesday.

Brown County Highway Engineer Andrew Land said about 2,550 feet of existing eight to ten inch tile in Bashaw Township was investigated and found to be almost completely blocked with sediment.

Quotes were sent to 17 drainage contractors for the project with a $32,332 engineering estimate. Lohrenz Excavating, Inc. had the low bid, $25,386.65; and will begin the repair on or before Oct. 13. The completion deadline is April 30, 2026.

Approval came on a motion by Commissioner Brian Braun, seconded by Jeff Veerkamp.

An existing CD 44 tile line in Albin Township was tied in with private pattern tile and found to be almost half-filled with sand and mud. A replacement project involves about 800 feet of eight-inch tile.

Quotes were sent to 17 drainage contractors for the project with a $26,490 engineering estimate. Three bids were received. Lohrenz Excavating had the low bid, $11,430, and will begin the repair Oct. 13. Completion deadline is April 30, 2026.

Approval came on a motion by Commissioner Braun, seconded by Jeff Veerkamp.

Lang said no bids were received for the CD 62 tile replacement project of about 2,600 feet of eight to 12-inch tile in Albin and Lake Hanska Townships. The existing main tile line in Lake Hanska Township had several tile washouts and the tile line was filled with sand.

Quotes were sent to 17 drainage contractors. Lang said the project will be rebid and he plans to return to the county board next spring.
