Winthrop woman in custody following reports of possible gunshots

WINTHROP– A 45-year-old woman is in custody following reports of possible gunshot heard from the 300 block of South Redwood Street in Winthrop.

The incident began at 5:20 a.m. Friday as a noise complaint. Sibley County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of loud music coming from a residence on the 300 block of South Redwood Street in Winthrop. Around 7 a.m., additional calls were made to authorities reporting possible gunshots in the same area.

Winthrop Police Department and deputies from Sibley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and issued a shelter in place order in a three-block radius surrounding the 300 block of South Redwood Street.

Law enforcement attempted to make contact with the homeowner, but these attempts were unsuccessful. McLeod County Sheriff’s Office provided additional resources, and through coordinated efforts, authorities were able to take the 45-year-old woman into custody. Charges are currently pending.

No injuries were reported in connection with this incident. The case remains under active investigation. Winthrop Police stated there is no ongoing threat to the community.
