A dozen Sleepy Eye students recover high school credits

Progress to graduation on time, with classmates

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye High School Principal Shane Laffen told the school board Wednesday that a dozen high school students earned high school credits this summer.

Laffen said the students are progressing toward graduation on time with classmates through the school’s credit recovery program.

“Summer school went well. We had 35 students,” he said. “All but one junior high student met expectations to advance in grade level. That individual can repeat 8th grade, but we will encourage Riverbend Area Learning Center.”

Sleepy Eye Elementary Principal Ben Westphal said the school’s summer migrant program recent concluded.

“(Sleepy Eye Public School Hispanic Liaison) Nadia Crooker was a rockstar. We couldn’t have had the positive impact we had without her hard work. There were 100 students served. It was good work all around,” said Westphal.

He said the elementary school open house was very well attended.

“Most teachers said more than half their students were there. Nearly all students came for some,” said Westphal. “It was fantastic to meet the students and interact with families. It was a very warm welcome. Nice people all around. Sweet kids.”

Starting at $4.50/week.
