SEARLES — The Minnesota State Patrol reported Tuesday that Ladonna Mae Mikkelson, 75; and Charles Keith Mikkelson, 83, both of Madelia, died in a two-vehicle crash reported at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday on State Highway 15 about a mile south of Searles.

Ladonna Mikkelson was driving a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan southbound on Highway 15 when she stopped for road construction and the minivan was rear-ended by a southbound 2021 Nissan Altima driven by an 18-year-old Sioux Falls, S.D. female. The State Patrol said Charles Mikkelson was riding in the minivan.

The name of the Nissan driver and names of two ten-year-olds riding in the Nissan will be released later. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. Alcohol was not involved in the Dodge.

Responding agencies included the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, New Ulm Fire Department, Allina, Mayo 1 Air and Madelia Emergency Medical Services and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
