Brown County board accepts CSAH 10 stream bank armoring bid

Due to severe erosion encroaching gravel road

NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners unanimously accepted a low bid Tuesday for the County State Aid Highway 10 streambank armoring project.

The project about 2 ½ miles west of Highway 4 along the Minnesota River will armor the streambank with rip rap above the high water elevation and continue with a geogrid system to the top of the slope. Severe erosion is encroaching to the gravel road.

The project will be partially funded from the federal Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) program. This program was authorized under the bipartisan infrastructure Law in 2021.

Other funding will be provided by Minnesota aid funding.

The project is scheduled to begin Sept. 22 or as soon as river conditions allow and is planned to take up to 30 working days to complete, said Brown County Highway Engineer Andrew Lang.

Commissioner Brian Braun’s motion, seconded by Scott Windschitl, approved M.R. Paving & Excavating’s $508,353,37 low bid. Mathiowetz Construction bid $706,765.72 for the project. The engineer’s estimate was $544,450.50.

After federal approval, the county highway department will bring the low bid to the board for consideration of awarding the contract.

Starting at $4.50/week.
