NEW ULM — Thursday’s Music in the Park performance featured The Cousin Duo, Joy Ciaffoni of Moorhead and Angie Anderson of New Ulm.

The duo took the stage with a blend of original songs and familiar covers, bringing folk and country sounds to the summer evening.

Ciaffoni and Anderson said they were a last-minute fill-in to perform, but we were excited to play on a hot summer night, which they believed is the perfect time for a concert in the park.

The Cousin Duo was the third act lined up to perform after a string of schedule changes. The Ulmer Quartet was originally set to take the stage but had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. Molly and Sonny were slated to replace them, but after Sonny required surgery, they too had to cancel. That’s when The Cousin Duo stepped in.

Despite an extreme heat warning, music lovers still came out to enjoy the show at German Park.

Kids in the crowd volunteered and participated to help perform with the Cousin Duo during one of the songs at Music in the Park

“This is our first concert in the park this summer,” said Larry and Darlene Quindale of New Ulm. “We were avid concertgoers last summer. It’s something to do, listen to music, and we live close by.”

Cathy Knadel, also from New Ulm, said she enjoys “the entertainment and seeing people you know.”

Annette Perry, another New Ulm resident, said she came out to see part of the Puppet Wagon earlier and wanted to enjoy the beautiful evening in the park.

Next week’s Music in the Park performance will feature Blue Dirt Road at 7 p.m. Prior to the concert, at 6:15 p.m., the Puppet Wagon will return with a show, and Rec on the Go will offer games and crafts for kids and families.

This week, Music in the Park music goers watched and listened to the Cousin Duo perform at German Park.

Before the concert, the Puppet Wagon performed a show at German Park
