‘A good surprise’
Jensen Motors, Minnesota Valley Funeral honored as businesses of the year

NEW ULM — On Thursday evening, despite uncertain weather throughout the day, clouds looming and wind picking up, there was a strong turnout from the community.
While there were concerns about potential rain, the skies held off, allowing the celebration to go on as planned. At times, the wind was strong enough that Eric Warmka, General Manager of Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes, had to physically hold down the event tent to keep it from blowing away.
The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Celebration of the Business of the Year at German Park. The free community event recognized the outstanding achievements of two local businesses: Jensen Motors, named Large Business of the Year, and Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, honored as Small Business of the Year.
The evening was a blend of two events, Business of the Year and Concert in the Park, both taking place at German Park. Due to the wind and chance of rain, the Tanner Stark Band performed under the park shelter instead of at the amphitheater.
“We didn’t want to take the risk of moving all the equipment and having to relocate mid-set,” Stark said. The band plays a blend of modern and classic country music, bringing energy to their performances.

“It’s a good day, good turnout,” said Rick Jensen, owner of Jensen Motors. “It was a good surprise, never expected it would happen. Always very appreciative for winning Business of the Year.”
Jensen Motors is a family-owned dealership that has served New Ulm and the surrounding area for generations, known for its commitment to customer service, community involvement, and long-standing reputation in the automotive industry.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes & Cremation Services has been a trusted part of the community for decades, offering compassionate and personalized care for families during life’s most difficult moments. Their commitment to service and community support earned them this year’s Small Business of the Year honor.
Eric Warmka, general manager at Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes, added to the spirit of the evening. “Absolutely loved how many people came out today in this weather,” he said. “Very giving. A perfect day to enjoy German Park and the New Ulm community.”
Musician Tanner Stark added, “I’m happy to be here to perform for the community, very grateful for this opportunity.”
