NEW ULM — DSM-Firminich in New Ulm was recognized for going beyond basic compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards with the five-year Minnesota Star certification recently.
The New Ulm facility is one of only 37 state worksites receiving top-tier certification by The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.
The program recognizes companies in which managers and employees work together to develop health and safety systems that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards, resulting in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses.
Key program elements are management leadership and employee involvement; resource allocation to address safety issues; systems that identify and control workplace hazards; and a plan for employee safety and education.
“This is a certification that is a significant milestone for DSM-Firminich and New Ulm community. We are honored to be among the few organizations in Minnesota to receive this certification. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of safety and health in our operations,” said New Ulm DSM-Firminich Health Safety Environmental Manager Adam Chartier.
“Every few years, we are audited for safety performance by MNOSHA. Employees are interviewed and we do tours. They wrap up with any 90-day events that were not addressed. We have 90 days to close them out. After we closed out the events, we got a five-year certification, which is the maximum we can get, and a new flag,” he said.
Chartier said the New Ulm facility will submit data annually to MNOSH who will return to DSM-Firminich in five years.
“We are incredibly proud to receive the Mn Star Certification,” said DSM-Firminich Site Director Otto Cabeza. “This recognition reflects our unwavering dedication to creating a safe and healthy work environment for our employees. It is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our entire team.”
DSM-Firminich’s New Ulm facility has implemented comprehensive safety protocols, regular training sessions, and proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its workforce. In addition to the certification, the company’s efforts have contributed to its overall mission of sustainability and excellence.
