Two housing plats approved by NU Council

The New Ulm City Council approved a plat at 901 Highland Avenue. The plat will allow the construction of an apartment project.

NEW ULM – The New Ulm City Council approved two preliminary plats for housing project, Tuesday.

The first plat was for an apartment development on highland avenue and the second was for residential housing on Alison Avenue and Ryan Road.

The first preliminary plat was for the Highland Apartments Addition. In March, the council approved an amendment to the city’s comprehensive plan to allow the creation of a new high-density residential development on North Highland Avenue.

The location of the development is 901 N. Highland Avenue and is southeast of the New Ulm High School, northwest of Kids Excel Center and west of Highland Avenue between 8th and 11th N. Streets.

The development proposal calls for the creation of four, three-story apartment buildings. Each building would have 36 apartment units with a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, with a total of 144 units on the site.

The New Ulm City Council approved a two lot plat in the Sarah Hills Fourth Addition. The plat will allow the construction of a home at 1827 Ryan Road and 1900 Ailson Ave.

The total area being platted is 9.9 acres and is currently divided into four out lots. The new plat will divide the property into four lots and it will provide street right-of-way for the extension of 10th N. Street. The four lots will have frontage on the extension of either 10th N. Street, N. Highland Ave or 7th N. Street.

Ward 3 City Councilor Tom Schmitz made the motion to approve the plat with a second from Councilor Eric Warmka. Schmitz said this development would be good not only for Ward 3, but the entire community. The motion was unanimously accepted.

The second plat was for property in the Sarah Hills Fourth Addition located at 1827 Ryan Road and 1900 Ailson Ave. The plat divides the property into two lots.

Schmitz made the motion for this plat as well. He said another housing project in Ward 3 was fantastic. Councilor David Christian seconded the motion. It was unanimously approved by the council.

Starting at $4.50/week.
