COURTLAND – Greg Juberien will replace Paul Bode on the Courtland City Council.

At Thursday’s Courtland City Council meeting, Juberien was appointed to the council after they accepted Council Member Paul Bode’s resignation.

Thursday was Bode’s last council meeting. Juberien will immediately begin serving on the council and remain the seat for the remainder of Bode’s term. The council seat be up for election in Nov. 2026.

Bode announced he would be resigning from the council last month. He is leaving the council because he is moving from Courtland and will no longer be eligible to serve on the city council.

Mayor Al Poehler explained that because Bode’s term has less than two years left, the council could appoint a replacement.

“Greg has served on the Planning Commission and has attended council meetings which are good steps for becoming a council member,” said Poehler.

In other news, Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor Dave Ubel reported on issues he has been working on. He had about four loads of dirt or “muck” removed from the pond to try to prevent it from plugging up as it did last year.

About 300 cubic yards of dirt, from a property that is digging for a new house, were hauled near the railroad tracks and will be used to fix a washout.

Street signs will be going up soon in the Kuester Pit Second Addition subdivision. The intersection of Collin Drive and Ashland has too steep of a slope for good drainage so some tar will need to be cut to repair it.

City Clerk Julie Holm will meet on May 20 with Nicollet County for a work session to discuss Joint Powers with them, Nicollet and Lafayette. They will discuss Cannabis and hemp businesses. Nicollet County is requested to handle the registration and administration of the businesses.

The next council meeting will be 7 p.m. June Thursday.

Starting at $4.50/week.
