Spring road weight restrictions OK’d
Road work boosts CR 25, 27 limits
NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved 2025 spring road weight restrictions Tuesday.
Spring road weight restriction postings typically begin in late February or early March. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) provides a three-day notice before road restrictions begin.
County road work done in 2024 increased the weight limits from nine to ten tons on County Road 25 from County Road 11 to 13 and on County Road 27 from Highway 14 to County Road 11.
Approval came on a motion by Commissioner Jeff Veerkamp, seconded by Dave Borchert.
Brown County Highway Engineer Andrew Lang said the The State Highway 4 project between Sleepy Eye and St. James completed last year increased the highway’s weight limit from seven to ten tons.
In January, the Brown County Highway Committee agreed to accept MNDOT’s request to reinstate Highway 4 detours on County Road 24 between Highway 4 and County Road 8 and on County Road 8 from County Road 24 to Highway 14 for two to four weeks this spring.
The Highway 4 detours are scheduled to return after spring highway load restrictions are lifted, likely in mid-April, so minor Highway 4 finishing work can be completed near the Cottonwood River bridge several miles south of Sleepy Eye.
