A Ridgeway Assisted Living bus assists passengers in getting what they need from Cash Wise. This will no longer include pharmacy after Wednesday at 7, when the Cash Wise Pharmacy is closed for good.

NEW ULM – New Ulm’s Cash Wise is closing its pharmacy effective Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Coborn’s/Cash Wise Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications Dennis Host said the decision to close pharmacies in New Ulm and Park Rapids was from a business perspective.

“We are always looking at viability, is there or is there not growth,” he said. “Pharmacy is a challenging market in today’s environment, and that went into closing these two pharmacies.”

He said the pharmacy has run inside the Cash Wise since it opened in 1989. For those currently using the pharmacy, a message should have gone out regarding what to do next.

“All of the patients within the pharmacy were notified via letter last week,” Host said. “They were provided with instructions as to where their prescriptions are being sent to make it as smooth as possible.”

Host said this was not in their long-term plan, with this decision being made only in the last month. He said this closure does not affect any other parts of the store, as New Ulm is a thriving area.

“This is only related to the pharmacy,” Host said. “We have no plans for any closure for New Ulm’s Cash Wise as a whole, it is a very good market for us. We look forward to continue servicing the grocery needs of people in New Ulm.”
