‘Ready to shift gears’

Changes coming for two New Ulm businesses

After Saturday, Christmas Haus will no longer occupy this storefront. They will move to online and special event sales.

NEW ULM – Two New Ulm businesses are shaking things up, with Christmas Haus moving online and MN Eis looking to sell.

The Christmas Haus is leaving its storefront on 127 North Minnesota Street in favor of selling their goods online. They will also be attending events in-theme for the business, such as the Norske Hostfest Scandinavian Festival in Minot, North Dakota, and the European Christmas Market in St. Paul.

The Christmas Haus opened May 2023 after the Guten Tag Haus closed in January. Christmas Haus and MN Eis owner Lindsey Henn said the online store will likely be open by the end of October.

“Doing e-commerce is that more tedious work of going through and entering every item,” she said. “Taking pictures and dimensions of every item. It’s just a matter of having enough time to sit down and get it all plugged in.”

By doing e-commerce, Henn hopes to open her business to a wider consumer base.

Unlike the Christmas Haus, MN Eis will stay open indefinitely while Owner Lindsay Henn looks for a buyer.

“A lot of the Christmas Haus customers are people from the metro area,” she said. “It’s just a more convenient way of giving any customers the opportunity to purchase their favorite items.”

At the same time, Henn is looking to sell MN Eis at 10 North Minnesota Street. The store opened in June 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. She said closing down the ice cream shop is not an option.

“MN Eis in itself is not going anywhere,” Henn said. “I will make sure to find the right people to carry on what we have started. I would keep operating the store until that right buyer came along.”

Operating the shop was a dream of Henn’s. She said it has allowed her to be part of an amazing community, and now she wants to bring someone else into it.

“As a life-long dreamer, I know this is not my forever path,” Henn said. “While it’s great to know when to go after something, it is equally important to know when to close one chapter and allow yourself to develop and grow in new adventures. I am excited to pass the torch (or scoop) to the next ice cream-loving dreamer.”

Henn said she didn’t plan for both events to occur at the same time, but everything happened to come together that quickly.

“I knew that I was ready to shift gears,” she said. “People make career changes for a lot of different reasons. For me, that’s the direction I was looking to go; to explore different things for myself. It wasn’t necessarily planned that way. A lot of times, once you start putting things out there, things naturally fall into place.”

The final three days of in-store shopping at Christmas Haus will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. MN Eis will continue to stay open for their posted hours.

Starting at $4.50/week.
