BROWN COUNTY — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved paving and debris removal quotes Tuesday.

Approval of MR Paving & Excavating’s $21,810 quote to pave the improved radius at the north leg of the CSAH 16/TH 14 intersection came on a motion by Commissioner Brian Braun, seconded by Dave Borchert. Three quotes were requested. Only one quote was received. The engineer’s estimate was $22,040.

With construction of a truck fuel station at the intersection, the radius in the northeast corner needs improvement for westbound trucks to safely turn north to enter the station. The Brown County Highway Dept. will do most of the work. The Minnesota Department of Transportation agreed to pay for TH 14 right of way work.

Approval of Mathiowetz Construction Company’s $22,324.50 quote came on a motion by Commissioner Scott Windschitl, seconded by Tony Berg.

A $10,000 estimate was submitted to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The site qualifies an an emergency operation under an FHWA program and will be reimbursed at 80% or 100%.

Work will be completed in September or October, depending on river level, according to Mathiowetz Construction. Excessive June rain caused many trees to wash into the Cottonwood River. Some trees snagged on CSAH 11 bridge.
