State of emergency declared in Brown County
NEW ULM — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday ratifying a state of emergency for flood damage from recent rain events.
Action on the resolution allowing Brown County to apply for possible state and/or federal assistance, came on a motion by Commissioner Brian Braun, seconded by Scott Windschitl.
Brown County Emergency Manager Shawn Stoermann said he has talked with several Brown County townships.
“Fortunately, some of us don’t have the damage that some counties to the south and east of us do, but we do have damage, primarily to roads and the ditch system including debris clearance,” he added.
Stoermann said the state of emergency declaration will not require the county and townships to go through the bid process for all work to be done.
“It also gets us on disaster assistance lists for infrastructure damage cost reimbursement,” he added.
Stoermann said the Brown County townships of Bashaw, Cottonwood, Mulligan and Stately have reported damage. He said he’ll still waiting to hear from another township.
Brown County’s threshold to qualify for state assistance for damage to public property is $59,597.60 and $119,195.20 to qualify for federal assistance.
