NEW ULM — The 2024 New Ulm Home & Health Show opened with new wrinkles including recreation, fitness and 73 exhibitors at the Civic Center Friday.

New Ulm Anytime Fitness Club Manager London Watson said Evolt 360 body scanner drew a good amount of interest at the show.

The device measures a number of health parameters including fat and muscle mass, body posture, fluid in the body and more than 40 measurements in 60 seconds.

A health and fitness app tracks body composition, macro-nutrient profiling, health lifestyle scoring and individual supplement recommendations.

“It measures calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat for people to reach optimal health goals,” said Watson.

Vincent Leske of New Ulm used the Evolt 360 body scanner and said he learned something.

“I learned my body fat was 5%, not 3%. It told me how much protein and carbohydrates I should be eating. I’d recommend it to anyone really interested in exercise and fitness,” Leske said.

Brown County Dairy Princess Emma Fischer of Sleepy Eye said she thought the show grew this year.

“I see more people and vendors this year than in the past. I’ve been to a few of these shows,” Fischer said.

The Brown County Dairy Association offered free cheese samples.

The New Ulm Area Sport Fishermen are offering new members their choice of rods and reels. The organization supports youth fishing outings and contests, Pro-Kinship for Kids plus direct input to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and clear Lake Management Plan.

Arcade games are also available at the show.

The City of New Ulm offers up to $200 towards the purchase of a tree from the city-approved tree list for finding the largest elm tree in New Ulm city limits. Contest entries are at the City of New Ulm booth at the show.

New Ulm Public Utilities is gathering data on private water service lines in New Ulm and needs the public’s help. There is no safe level of lead. Forms are available at the show and on the city website https://forms.ci/new-ulm.mn.us/forms/LeadAndCopperSurvey. For more help, call 359-8279.

Show attendance numbers grew as the night wore on. Regular attendees Kathy and Tim Nelson of New Ulm said they enjoy coming to the home and health show every year.

“It’s always good to see people and a lot of vendors,” Kathy Nelson said.

“It’s a social thing too. And a sign of spring coming,” said Tim Nelson.

The show continues 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Seminars continue at 10 a.m. Saturday about prevent: the best medicine, colon cancer at 11 a.m., fresh, healthy food at noon, assisted living 101 at 1 p.m. and downsizing, de-cluttering and organizing at 2 p.m.
