New Ulm woman killed in car accident

NEW ULM — A New Ulm woman was killed in a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 68/Broadway and 15th S. Street Thursday afternoon.

New Ulm Police and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash at Broadway and 15th South Street at 1:54 p.m.

A BMW driven by John Roy Deleo, 53 of Lake Crystal was traveling southbound on Highway 68/Broadway. A Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Sharon Ann Portner, 82, of New Ulm traveling north Highway 68/Broadway. The two vehicles collided near the intersection at 15th Street South.

Deleo sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to New Ulm Medical Center. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, alcohol was involved in the accident.

Portner sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident.

According to the Brown County Jail roster, Deleo was arrested and booked by the State Patrol. Charges include vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle with negligence while under influence of alcohol.
