New Ulm Catholic Diocese hosting Eucharist Procession

The Diocese of New Ulm Pastoral Center is where the Eucharist Procession will begin at 4 p.m.

NEW ULM– The Catholic Diocese will be hosting their Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession on Sunday.

The Procession will lead the Blessed Sacrament from the Diocesan Pastoral Center to the Cathedral for a blessing and Benediction at 4 p.m. There will be time before the procession from 3 to 3:45 p.m. for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. After the event, a barbecue will be held in Washington Park.

As Catholics believe the Blessed Sacrament is the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, the procession is held to honor him and witness the presence of God. “For those Bishop Zielinski to lead Corpus Christi procession in New Ulm; all welcome who participate in the procession, it is an opportunity to proclaim being Catholic and grow in their faith.” The Diocese wrote.

The event serves as a kick-off for the “Year of Parish Renewal”. This initiative comes from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) after the Roman Catholic Church noticed a decline in Eucharistic faith. “In late 2019, a Pew Study indicated what many had long suspected. Few Catholics, approximately 30 percent, fully believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.” The Diocese wrote.

“Year of Parish Renewal” seeks to re-ignite the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. “More than an event or a program, they envisioned a true revival to rediscover the source and summit of our Faith through a deep commitment of prayer, pilgrimage, and worship on the part of the entire Church in the United States.” The Diocese wrote.

Those who attend are invited to bring a food shelf item for the area food shelf program.
