Minnesota State Series competition in New Ulm

BMX riders of all ages and experience levels will tackle the New Ulm track Sunday. The Minnesota State Series will have their third event of the season.

NEW ULM– The New Ulm BMX park is hosting the Minnesota State Series’ River Valley BMX competition on Sunday.

The track will open at 9 a.m. for registration and practice. Kids and adults of all ages can sign up to race, even without prior experience. The racing will start at 12 p.m. and go until all of the races have been completed.

The races are divided by both age and skill groups so participants have equal competitors. Event organizer Brittany Nosbush described the general set up for the races.

“There are three rounds for each race and the first two rounds are qualifying rounds.” Nosbush said. “The top two or three kids from each round goes to the main event. Kids that don’t make it from the first round can enter the second round before the main event. The main event can have anywhere from 3-8 racers.”

This event is important for State Series competitors, as it counts toward the 5 events they need to qualify for to make it to the state finals in Isanti.

People come from all across the state and the country to share their excitement for BMX. Nosbush remembers the furthest competitors have come to be in the event and the diversity of riders.

“Last year we had a group of women from Florida. They raced every one of the state series events in Minnesota.” Nosbush said. “It was a lot of fun. We get a lot of different people. We have 2 year olds up to 78-80 years old.”

The next State Series BMX qualifier will take place in St. Michael June 24.
