Mothers and sons have a super time dancing

The Mom/Son Superhero dance began at 1 p.m. Kourtney Turner along with Lincoln Boomgarden (left) and Parker Turner (right) were among the first to hit the dance floor. They were all excited to show off their moves.
NEW ULM — Turner Hall hosted a dance party for the greatest superheroes — moms and their little heroes in training.
It was the annual Mom and Son dance organized by Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE). The celebration was a follow-up to last week’s Daddy Daughter Dance.
ECFE Coordinator Betty Uehling said they have organized these dances for over a decade. It started with the Daddy Daughter dances, but soon moms were demanding dances of their own.
Initially, the mom/son dance was wild west themed with lots of cowboys, but a few years ago they switched to a superhero theme and the boys loved it. Ever since they have provided the dancers with capes.
This year First Choice Pregnancy provided superhero masks. The Optimist Club helped cover the cost of a DJ. Kamra Joosten provided photography, to capture the special moments between mother and son.

Several little superheroes dance the "Hokey Pokey" Saturday as part of the Mom/Son Superhero Dance at Turner Hall. Around 40 moms and their boys put on their best dancing shoes and capes for event.
Uehling said there was a different energy between the daddy-daughter dance and the mom-son superhero dance. She said the young girls act very ladylike and take the dancing seriously. The young boys are less restrained but equally enthusiastic about dancing.
It is hard to tell whether the boys or the moms are having the most fun.
Kourtney Turner said it was her second year coming to the dance. She was dressed as Superman while her young dance partners Lincoln Boomgarden and Parker Turner were dressed as Spider-man and Iron Man.
Turner said they were super excited to come and show off their dance moves. She believed it probably is just as exciting for them as it is for her.
Every mother at the dance had a similar story to tell. It is not every day you get to dance the Hokey Pokey or the Chicken Dance with your kids while playing superhero, but it is a moment to cherish.
