NEW ULM — A trailer near the entrance of Oakwood Estates in New Ulm erupted in flames early Tuesday morning.

Residents reported hearing an explosion around 12:48 a.m. and saw trailer #19 was on fire.

The New Ulm Fire Department arrived at the scene at 12:52 a.m. At the time of arrival trailer #19 was fully engulfed by flame and the fire had spread to trailer #18.

Occupants in both trailers had already escaped by the time NUFD arrived. One individual sustained burns and was transported to the hospital. Several surrounding trailers were also evacuated.

Crews had the fires under control in about one hour. Trailer #19 and trailer #18 were reported as total losses.

NUFD is investigating the cause of the explosion/fire, but it is known that the explosion/fire originated in the garage of trailer #19.
