Local veterans (from left) John Ingebritson, Tom Flatua, David Hoffmann, Dennis Warta, Al Gag, Jon Gohr and Jerry Thompson conducted the annual laying of the wreath at the “Spirit of the American Doughboy Statue” in New Ulm Cemetery on Thursday. The laying of the wreath included a performance of “Taps” from Ingebritson. Memorial Day observances begin in New Ulm at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, with the Memorial Day parade forming by St. Mary’s Church and proceeds north on Minnesota Street. Observances at the New Ulm Cemetery begin at 10 a.m. The master of ceremonies is Tom Roesch, past commander of Legion Post 132. The Gettysburg Address will be recited by Dawson Schaefer, a New Ulm High School. The Memorial Address will be given by August Fliszar a recent graduate of Cathedral High School.

In case of rain, the service will be held at the Community Center on North German Street at 10 a.m.
