New Ulm adds three fees, hikes one for liquor licenses

New Ulm will make three additions to its liquor license fees, effective July 1, 2022.

The additions include a $400 annual fee for an on-sale microdistillery cocktail room; a $300 fee for an annual micro-distillery off-sale fee and $25 for a one-day consumption and display permit fee.

Jace Marti, co-founder of Black Frost Distilling, asked if these fees would be effective by possible changes in the state legislation that could increase the limit of a cocktail room for a micro-distillery.

Finance Director Nicole Jorgensen said any changes made by the Legislature would be reflected in the city codes.

The city also made a change to its annual off-sale intoxicating liquor license fee. This fee has been at $200 since 1997. The city will increase it to $300. This fee will not be effective until Jan. 1, 2023.
