Chad Ubl

WINONA — New Ulm native Chab Ubl has been named to the position of city manager in Winona. The Winona City Council voted unanimously in February to offer the job to Ubl, the city’s longtime Parks Department head and the acting city manager since October.

Ubl is the son of Elroy and Barb Ubl of New Ulm. He is a 1991 graduate of New Ulm Public High School, received a bachelor of science degree in communication science and disorders from the University of Wisonsin-Eau Claire in 1996, and a bachelor of science degree in recreation and leisure studies from Winona State University in 1997.

Ubl began working for Winona as a facilities coordinator in 1997 in the Parks Department and became Community Services director in 2006. He started serving as assistant city manager in 2016.

As city manager, Ubl oversees the city’s $58 million budget and a staff of 174 employees.
