Plans underway to relocate winery to downtown New Ulm

NEW ULM — Doppeleichen Vineyards annonces it plans to relocate from 58608 County Rd 21 to downtown New Ulm at 227 N. Minnesota St., where they have filed a Conditional Use Permit for a Farm Winery operation to be located. Owner Paul Neyers has already begun plans for conversion of vacant office space at 511 and 513 N 3rd St for production and tasting purposes. Upon approval, work will begin, with the goal of having space available for production and tastings in time for fall harvest.

Neyers has been growing grapes for over 25 years. In early years, grapes were grown to be enjoyed for home consumption as well as limited sales to established wineries. Beginning in 2011, Neyers began making wine commercially and his first bottling was completed in 2013. Doppeleichen had regular Farm Winery hours from 2013-2017, however the retail space was closed from 2018-2021 due to the New Ulm Gateway road project as well as COVID restrictions.

Neyers said he is excited about the downtown location and believes that it will be yet another great tourism draw as well as a comfortable place for locals to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

Neyers is a graduate of St. John’s University with a BA in Computer Science and the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota with an MBA in Finance. Paul is a past secretary of the Minnesota Grape Growers Association. He also graduated from the Wine Executive Program at UC Davis.

Starting at $4.50/week.
