Concord Singers and Schell’s team up for NUMAS Haus

NEW ULM -- The Concord Singers donned their gay apparel and trolled some yuletide carols at Schell's taproom Thursday evening with carols and sing-a-longs for a good cause.
In addition to celebrating the season, the holiday festival was an opportunity to raise money for the New Ulm Ministerial Association (NUMAS) Haus. For every pint of beer sold during the celebration, Schell's gave a $1 to NUMAS Haus.
NUMAS Haus is an organization that provides shelter to homeless women and children.
Jodi Marti said it was a fitting charity to give to during the Christmas season. She said in the Christmas story, there was no room at the inn for baby Jesus. It was the right time to raise funds to help others find shelter.
Schell's also agreed to match any cash donations given during the event. During intermission, Santa Claus made the rounds taking donations.
The Concord Singers sang several Christmas tunes, some in English others in German and even a few in Latin.
After intermission, the entire hall was invited to sing with them starting with "Jingle Bells." The big event was singing "12 Days of Christmas". Each table in the hall had a place card with one of the days written on it. Each table was asked to chime in when their turn in the song came.
The evening was a chance to celebrate and have fun. Jodi Marti said the pandemic had dampened spirits over the last year and a half, but this was a way to have some fun. Schell's hopes to make the Bier Hall Christmas sing-a-long an annual tradition.
