Fairgrounds are ‘scaregrounds’ on Halloween weekend

The Holiday themed haunted house was a big draw Friday night. Within the first hour, 200 people visited New Ulm Nightmares’s two haunted houses at the Brown County Fairgrounds. The haunted houses will open again Saturday and Halloween.

NEW ULM --It was a nightmare at the Brown County Fairgrounds, Friday.
The seventh annual New Ulm Nightmares was held on the fairgrounds. The is the first year, New Ulm Nightmares has opened a haunted attraction at the fairgrounds. The expanded space allowed for two spook houses.
First, was The Circus Freakshow set up in the grandstand, featuring the siamese clowns, the bearded lady, the half man-half chicken and the swamp creature. Outside the grandstand, the PA system pumped music to set the mood. The line for the Freakshow was inside the grandstand to keep guests warm. Fortune Teller, Roxi Manachoochi was on hand to tell guests their future as they waited in line.
The second haunted house was located in the fairground former exhibit hall. This haunted house was holiday-themed, with several spooky Christmas displays and a ghoulish Grinch at the end.
The first night of New Ulm Nightmares was well attended. An estimated 200 people went through the haunted house within the first hour.
New Ulm Nightmares will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday with a special blackout event held from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The haunted house will have no light, groups will get only a glowstick to navigate through the house of horrors.
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, New Ulm Nightmares will hold a special Kid's Day haunt. Kids can tour the haunted house with lights on, no scares fun for all ages. Kids can also meet and greet The Grinch to take holiday photos with him for $5.00.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the regular haunted house event will continue for the third final night.
Regular admission to the haunted house is $10 and $15 for a fast pass.
