On Wednesday afternoon, officers from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the Fairmont Police Department received word of a train derailment on County Road 39 just north of County Road 26 on the northwest end of Fairmont. Approximately eight cars were off the track and four had overturned. It was determined the cars that derailed contained ethanol. The area was closed to through traffic for an extended period of time. The incident remains under investigation.
