Halloween events aplenty this weekend
BROWN COUNTY — Halloween is only three days away and several holiday-themed activities are on the horizon this weekend, before the big Trick or Treat day on Sunday.
FRIDAY, Oct. 29
From 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cash Wise Foods will hold a drive-thru event in the parking lot with Halloween treats for the whole family.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The 7th Annual New Ulm Nightmares Haunted House will be held at the Brown County Fairgrounds. The event will feature two haunted houses. Admission is $10 or $15 for a fastpass.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Nightmare on Main Street in Sleepy Eye will be open to the public. Brent “Zoo Man” Mielke’s funhouse at 145 E. Main Street will be open. General admission is $5.
The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is holding a spooky organ recital. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. An organ recital featuring classic songs including Bach’s Toccata and Fuge,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” The recital is free, but goodwill offerings are encouraged.
SATURDAY, Oct. 30
At 10 a.m. participating downtown businesses will hold a Halloween Hop. People are encouraged to dress and trick or treat at participating businesses.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Brown County Historical Society is hosting a Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Pumpkins, scarecrows, witches, blackbirds and other Halloween decor will be hidden throughout the museum. Children are invited to track down the Halloween-themed items on all three floors. Scavenger hunt participants are encouraged to dress in costume. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. to Midnight, The Nightmare on Main Street in Sleepy Eye will be open to the public. Brent “Zoo Man” Mielke’s funhouse at 145 E. Main Street will be open. General admission is $5.
From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jersey’s Sweet Spot is hosting a trunk or treat at 18848 Highway 14, New Ulm. The trunk or treat will feature at least 14 vehicles handing out candy along a haunted trail. The event is free to the public. Look for the haunted ice cream trunk along Highway 14.
From 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Courtand Lions will host a trunk or treat at the Courtland Community Center. The event is free, but food shelf donations are accepted.
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. St. Paul’s Lutheran School will hold a trunk or treat.
The event will have candy, cookies, cider and games.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. New Ulm Nightmares will be open at the Fairgrounds for a second night. New Ulm Nightmares will also hold a special blackout event will be held from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. The haunted house will have no light, groups will get only a glowstick to navigate through the house of horrors.
SUNDAY, Oct. 31
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. New Ulm Nightmares will hold a special Kid’s Day haunt. Kids can tour the haunted house with lights on, no scares fun for all ages. Kids can also meet and greet The Grinch to take holiday photos with him for $5.00. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the regular haunted house event will continue for the third final night.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the First United Methodist Church, at the corner of Center and Broadway in New Ulm, will host a “Trunk or Treat” event on Halloween evening. Cars will be parked in the lot with their trunks open handing out candy.
Cars will be decorated with friendly Halloween or other themes. Children can easily walk from one car to another asking for tricks or treats. This is a nice event for parents of children too young to handle scary decorations or long walks for tricks or treats.
From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the New Ulm American Legion will hold a Halloween Community Treat Night. A free treat bag will be given to children 15 and under.
