NEW ULM — The Willkommen sign off Highway 14 on Highway 37/20th South Street will be moving to a new location Wednesday morning.

Cranes will be moving the sign further down 20th South Street to a spot adjacent to the former Putting Green site. This will be the sign’s new home.

To accommodate the move, westbound traffic into New Ulm will be closed from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. The traffic will be blocked to allow the crane to move the sign. Eastbound traffic out of New Ulm on Highway 37 should not be affected, but motorists are advised to be cautious while driving through the construction zone.

Motorists coming into New Ulm are advised to utilize Highway 14/15 (7th North Street) during the closure period.

Ground Zero Services excavated the Willkommen sign and dug the hole at the new location Tuesday in preparation for moving the sign. A six-foot hole was needed to secure the sign in place.

Ground Zero President Jason Kuester said RW Carlstrom out of Mankato is the general contractor on this project. The plan is to begin moving the sign at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
