Programming includes two guest speakers, the walking tour of downtown New Ulm Dakota War sites and a guided tour of the Pioneer Section of the City Cemetery.The activities are scheduled Aug. 19-22.

Thursday, Aug. 19 at noon in the Museum Annex, located next to the Brown County Museum.

Corinne Marz will present: “Aaron Meyer: His Family and Neighbors Escape From Lake Shetek‚” & “Alexander Ramsey‚ Words of War.” Marz is a historian, researcher, author, consultant and small business owner. She is a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College of New Ulm.Admission is free.

Marz is the author of “The Dakota Internment Camp at Fort Snelling,” “Alexander Ramsey‚ Words of War‚” and “The Day Before the Dakota War.” She is also a contributor to Minnesota, Heritage Back to the Sources, a collection of journals edited my Mary Hawker Bakeman and published by the 19 Century Researchers.

Friday, Aug. 20 at noon in the Museum Annex, located north of the Brown County Museum. Terry Sveine will present: What Happened to the Animals? Re-examining New Ulm During the U. S. Dakota War. Sveine is a graduate of Mankato State University with a degree in history and geography.He worked in the areas of travel and tourism for over 30 years.Admission is free.

Sveine currently serves as Mayor of New Ulm and he volunteers for many organizations in New Ulm.He serves on the board of the New Ulm Turnverein and is past president of the Brown County Historical Society.

He is an author; his most recent book is on the life of New Ulm resident Francis Baasen which will be published in the near future.

Friday, Aug. 20- 1 pm to 4 pm. Explore the past at The Historic Kiesling House, constructed in 1861, and learn about the Kiesling family that built the house.The family and their house survived the US-Dakota War of 1862.

Saturday, Aug. 21 at 2 pm. A walking tour of U.S. Dakota War sites in downtown New Ulm will be offered.The tour leaves from Brown County Historical Society Museum at 2 North Broadway, New Ulm.The tour guides will tell stories of Dakota War events that took place at the respective sites included in the tour. Admission is free.

Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 pm. Tours of the Pioneer Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery will be offered.The tour starts at the cemetery maintenance building on Cemetery Avenue, New Ulm.Information will be shared about the settlers who lost their lives during the Dakota War and are buried in the pioneer cemetery.Admission is free.
