Ideal conditions for warm 4th of July

BROWN COUNTY — Fourth of July celebrations were held across Brown County over the weekend.

Turner Hall started its celebration in the morning with live music in Turner Hall Park. Performances included music from Adam & The Jolly Jammers, The Wendinger Band and Alpensterne. Visitors were free to bring their lawn chairs and picnic in the park.

Fourth of July in the Park is a longtime tradition for Turner Hall. Turner Executive Director Andrea Boettger said they really missed holding a 4th of July gathering last year and it was great to have people back this year.

Boettger believed this year had the highest turnout for a Turner Independence Day celebration. The lines for food, beer and ice cream treats kept going throughout the day and into the evening.

By dusk, many Brown County residents had traveled to Sleepy Eye Lake for the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. Hours before the firework show a small flotilla of boats gathered on the lake to get the best view. The shoreline was filled with spectators hours before the first pyrotechnics were launched.

People gathered along the shores of Sleepy Eye Lake are illumi-nated by the Fourth of July fireworks.

Another benefit from this year’s Fourth of July celebration was the weather. Temperatures were in the 80s most of the day, but a steady breeze kept everyone comfortable. There was also a noticeable decrease in the bug population.

Few people watching fireworks along Sleepy Eye Lake were bothered by mosquitoes or other pests.

The 2021 Independence Day celebration will be remembered for its ideal conditions.
