Lemonade for a cause

NEW ULM — Madelyn Mielke and Chloe Gilles opened a lemonade stand on the South 800 block of Minnesota Street Wednesday with a noble cause.

The two young girls are raising money to help the son of St. Anthony teacher Janelle Kopacek. Kopacek’s son Jon was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia this spring.

Mielke and Gilles wanted to help any way possible. That led them to create a stand selling lemonade, cookies and brownies.

The stand was open through the afternoon. The girls said the foot traffic was pretty good. Several people had stopped for a cup of lemonade. The brownies were selling very well.

Mielke is no stranger to hosting lemonade benefits. She open a stand last year to raise money to help businesses rebuild in the Twin Cities.

A gofundme page has also been set up for Kopacek to cover medical expenses. https://gofund.me/f2df2a6b
