SE man faces seven drug charges

Madson

SLEEPY EYE — A 29-year-old Sleepy Eye man faces seven drug charges and two DWI charges after a June 1 report of a swerving red car east of Sleepy Eye led to his arrest.

Two counts of felony 1st-degree drug sale, two counts of felony 2nd-degree drug possession, felony 4th and 5th-degree drug sale, two counts of misdemeanor DWI and petty misdemeanor drug possession were filed against Jacob A. Madson, 509 Summit St. S.E., Sleepy Eye in Brown County District Court June 4.

Madson’s bail was set at $50,000 without conditions, $15,000 with conditions June 4. A court appearance was set for 8:30 a.m. June 8.

According to the complaint, Sleepy Eye Police were called at 12:50 p.m. June 1 about a westbound car near Christensen Farms swerving all over the road, nearly hitting several vehicles.

Sleepy Eye Police Officer Amber Meyer stopped the suspect vehicle, a maroon Oldsmobile after it turned right onto 7th Avenue N.E., almost hitting a boulevard tree. Meyer recognized the driver as Madson and noticed intoxication clues.

Madson told Meyer he didn’t drink alcohol but used pills and vapes of medical marijuana a few hours earlier. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI.

Meyer noticed a package on the floor of the suspect car that appeared to be a commercially packaged THC product not consistent with medical marijuana use.

Police got an approved search warrant, searched the vehicle and found $1,946, a number of pink pills identified as Bupernrophine Hydrochloride and Naloxone Hydrochloride, many THC cartridges, small baggies, dime bags with a green, leafy substance, plastic bags with marijuana residue, commercially packaged THC products that weighed 25.4 grams and wax containers, and paraphernalia including burnt tin foil, empty capsules and items used for smoking marijuana wax.

All told, the search turned up 13 Schedule 3 controlled substance pills, 242 THC cartridges, 1,018 grams of a green, leafy THC product, 99 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and 265 grams of marijuana wax.

Madson’s record showed he was convicted May 20, 2019 of two counts of felony 5th-degree drug possession.
