NEW ULM — The public is invited to Lunch and a Bite of History on Thursday, May 20. Local historian, Terry Sveine, will present the “Grocery Stores of New Ulm”. The noon program is filled but seating is available for the 6:30pm program. It will be held in the BCHS Museum Annex on Thursday, May 20.

When asked what his presentation will be about, Sveine warned that, “It is not going to be me showing photos of old grocery stores and elaborating on each of them. Rather, it will trace grocery shopping trends and changes throughout 160 years of New Ulm’s history that will surprise and intrigue the attendees. Many images and photos will illustrate the various points.”

Sveine has volunteered in many capacities for the BCHS. He was a board member, on the 150th Anniversary of the U.S.-Dakota War committee in 2011, he works in the Research Library, and leads exhibit tours and walking tours. He has written extensively on New Ulm history and is currently working on a piece about the role of animals in New Ulm during the U.S.-Dakota War.

Lunch and a Bite of History is free to the public. COVID-19 mandates will be followed.
