BUFFALO LAKE — A 12-year old boy was killed in a ATV rollover accident Saturday near Buffalo Lake.

Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 9:35 a.m. Saturday reporting a ATV crash approximately 6 miles south of Buffalo Lake in the Martinsburg Township. The caller reported the crash involved one ATV and a male party was trapped beneath the vehicle.

Upon arrival, responders discovered an ATV rollover. The vehicle was occupied by 12-year-old Carsten Homan of Hector and a second male juvenile passenger.

Homan was pronounced dead at the scene. The juvenile passenger was not injured.

Preliminary investigation indicates the ATV was traveling southbound on the road ditch of 510th Street when it struck a field approach and overturned.
