New Ulm’s own gives to Foster Program

New Ulm’s Own Fair Trade and Local Art presented a check of $475 to Brown County Family Services, to be used for the special needs of children and adolescents in the county’s foster care program. Presenting check to Brown County Human Services Licensing Social Worker, Laura Filzen is Kara Carlson and Jeanie Hinsman. The funds were proceeds from the silent auction held mid-November to mid-December featuring the chalk art drawings of artist Kara Carlson. New Ulm’s Own, 212 N. Minnesota, is a local non-profit, volunteer staffed gift shop featuring merchandise crafted in developing countries. Fair trade enables artisans to earn a fair wage and a sustainable income. Local art includes pottery, jewelry, books, weaving, notecards, and photography and wall art in a variety of medium.
