School property tax levy projected to go up about 1.29%

NEW ULM — New Ulm Public Schools are looking at a proposed property tax levy increase of at least 1.29% or $108,649 for 2021.

The District 88 School Board was presented with the proposed levy for 2021. For next year, the school is looking at a total levy of $8,554,525 and an increase of 1.85% from 2020. However, the district has the option of cutting $46,884 from the budget by withdrawing the reemployment money from the general fund. This would drop the levy to $8,507,641 and result in a 1.29% increase. Superintendent Jeff Bertrang recommended removing the reemployment for the 1.29%.

The final approval and certification of the levy will occur during the net regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 17, in the District Boardroom.
