Compassionate Friends Chapter sponsors flower float

NEW ULM — At 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents will gather at Riverside Park for a flower float in remembrance of a child who has died. It may be a child of any age.

The Compassionate Friends Chapter will also recognize the 40th anniversary of the chapter’s presence in New Ulm, reaching out to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings.

In August 1980, the South Central Minnesota chapter of The Compassionate Friends had its first meeting, gathering bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings to share their grief work in a safe place and receive encouragement and support from each other. Four parents whose child had died and a public health nurse united in forming the chapter, joining the world-wide organization of The Compassionate Friends.

The chapter also has published a quarterly newsletter since 1981, reaching over 300 bereaved families.

Those attending are invited to share in our monthly meeting at Redeemer Lutheran Church following the flower float. A photo button maker will be available. Please bring a photo (a copy) of your child, grandchild or sibling to make a photo button. Please call Judy at 507-359-2737 with any questions.
