Storm dumps two to three inches of rain in area

BROWN COUNTY – A powerful thunderstorm following the Minnesota River Valley dumped two to three inches of rain in parts of northern and eastern Brown County during the Wednesday morning commute.

The storm caused water to pond briefly, over curbs at times, at a number of intersections in New Ulm.

Heavier amounts of rain were reported in the northeastern corner of Watonwan County, northern Redwood County, western Renville County and eastern Yellow Medicine County, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

About an inch of rain was reported in much of central and eastern Nicollet and Renville Counties and most of Sibley County.

Power was reported out by Xcel Energy for about 2,000 customers in the Mankato and North Mankato areas.

Quarter-size hail was reported in several areas. Nickel-size hail was reported in Mankato. Dime-size hail was reported in Sibley County. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph were reported.
