Gaylord woman pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

Case stems from fatal Jan. 8 hit-and-run

GAYLORD — A Gaylord woman charged in a Jan. 8 hit-and-run crash in Gaylord that killed an 85-year-old man, pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide in Sibley County District Court Tuesday.

A charge of failing to stop at an accident against Alicia N. Streich was dismissed in the settlement conference. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing hearing for 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1. Streich was released on the same conditions of release as previously ordered.

According to court documents, Sibley County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the intersection of Main Avenue and 4th Street in Gaylord at 6:50 p.m. Jan. 8 after a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle that left the scene. Medical personnel soon arrived to treat John Siewert, 85, of Gaylord. He was later pronounced dead.

While investigating the accident, law enforcement got a phone call from a woman who said her daughter, Alicia N. Streich, called her and said she hit a pedestrian. The woman said she told Streich to go back to the scene and turn herself in.

About an hour later, Streich arrived at the scene and admitted to hitting the pedestrian with her vehicle. She admitted to not stopping and reporting the cash after hitting the man. Streich was arrested and transported to the Sibley County Jail.
