Saturday storms dump hail in area

SIBLEY COUNTY — Hail as large as 2.5 inches in diameter, tennis ball size, and wind gusts up to 70 mph, were reported by weather spotters about three miles from Stewart at 2:06 p.m. Saturday as several powerful storms blew through the area.

Two-inch (hen egg size) hail was reported about two miles from Hector at 1:43 p.m. Saturday. Hail as large as 1.75 inches (golf ball size) was reported about five miles from Winthrop, two miles east of the intersection of State Highway 15 and CR 8 or 1.4 miles west northwest of Winthrop, at 2:38 p.m.

Hail in Winthrop was so thick, it appeared like snow, according to some Facebook posts.

Hail up to 1.5 inches was reported at 1:07 p.m. near Lake Lilllian in Kandiyohi County. Hail up to 1.25 inches (half-dollar size), was reported about four miles from Jeffers at 2:42 p.m.
