Graduates cruise into future

Dozens of graduation themed vehicles filled with Class of 2020 seniors cruised downtown Minnesota Street on Thursday night.

NEW ULM — Over 100 graduating high school seniors in dozens of vehicles took part in Thursday’s downtown Minnesota Street cruise.

The event was hosted by Lamplighter Restaurant with assistance from the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce.

The seniors gathered in the parking lot behind Lamplighter and the lots adjacent to Alliance Bank. At 6 p.m. the vehicles all pulled onto Minnesota Street and continued south from 3rd North to 1st South Street.

Seniors were invited to show off their decorating talents and school pride for this cruise. Prizes were awarded for categories such as “Best Decorated Truck” and “Best Hairstyle.” Each student participating in the cruise received gift bags.

Multiple businesses along Minnesota Street decorated buildings to honor the seniors and many donated prizes to be awarded for the various categories.

Hundreds of spectators turned out along Minnesota Street to honor the seniors. Spectators shouted congratulations to the seniors driving down Minnesota Street.

The cruise was likely the largest public gathering in New Ulm since March.
